They have seriously shortened the assemblies/conventions. Used to be 7 days long and from 8am to 9pm or something crazy like that (though thankfully before my time!). I think I remember having to do a half-day on the Thursday of the district convention weekend. Anyone else remember this or am I cracking up?!

the DONATION simplification - I still don't get how "donating" when you pick them up and then "donating" anything you get from the householders is a form of DONATION - maybe you can help me understand how this is makes a JW's life easier
My dad used to be an MS prior to the donation arrangement being implemented. I remember him spending hours at the hall before each audit was due, trying to get all the numbers totted up and balanced. Not easy at all especially when the pioneers could by for half-price whilst r&f pubs had to pay the WTS Recommended Retail Price. I know he was glad when that changed.

I especially liked the comparision of the lepers and those who are DA or DF. What you say is so true! I'm not in the DA/DF category at the moment tho if may happen in the future. I'll store your article away for future reference. Sometimes our JW family members bring up some "relevant" points to me and hubby Gladring so its nice to read your comments and be prepared for what they might say.

I've attended both weddings and funerals of another faith. Almost all my extended family is Catholic and I go along to attend their memorable occasions. Never been pulled up in any way for doing so.

they both needed to go potty at the same time.
so i tried to pick both of them up.

Speaking of people falling asleep at meetings...
I remember one time when a hit-and-miss kinda brother came in to the meeting late and proceeded to fall asleep. My dad was on mics and decided to put the mic in front of this brother's face and got someone to give him a slight nudge to wake him up. So he woke up with the mic right at his mouth! The speaker was still trying to give his talk and all of us who'd seen what had happened were completely cracking up!! That'll teach him not to fall asleep at meetings!

Holidays-nervous about celebrating them but don't understand why.

i believe i have become agnostic in a short period of time.
so, this year i decided that we are going to celebrate some holidays.

It could just be coz its new that you feel nervous - just like doing anything else for the first time.
Or it could be that you're worried about getting "caught" by some elder or family member. Do you still live in your old cong's territory?

I got too warm at the book study and tried to take my jumper off over my head. But it got stuck half-way and then I got a fit of the giggles. I couldn't get the jumper back on or off but because I was laughing so much I had to leave the room. So I had to walk out with the jumper still stuck on my head!
Mind you, maybe that doesn't count coz the book study is no longer a meeting.

Interpret this dream?
by AK - Jeff innot that i subscribe to that sort of thing - but this one was very wierd.. i was in a glass house - or at least there was mostly glass all around.
there was a vehicle pulled up close to one of the doors, and a woman was yelling that she needed to come inside because the buffalo were chasing her.
i looked down the hill and saw two thin buffalo, and when they saw me they charged up to the entrance of the house, preventing me from opening the door to the woman.

Very interesting and unusual dream. I used to have a dream dictionary but had to get rid of it coz my dub mother thought it was demonic!
So I can't help you much. Guess you need to contact the prophet Daniel or maybe Joseph. They knew a thing or two about dreams!

Pro's and Con's of DAing myself.

but there is a small area in my subconscious that whispers "this is not a good idea.
i haven't been to a meeting in over six months, no service in seven years.

As you probably know, these days they make the same announcement whether you DA or are DF'ed. So in their eyes, there is no difference in leaving because you can no longer stand their dishonesty and poor ethics or if you run off with your best mate's Mrs! Sick, isn't it? The congregation will have no idea what the reasons behind your announcement are but, being the judgemental group that they are, will no doubt think the worst ie that you've done something immoral not the WT.
DA'ing is not something you can undo so don't do it until you're 100% sure its the right thing for you to do. I've thought about doing it myself more than a few times but I agree with what the other posters have said about this showing that they still have some level of authority and control over you. Don't give them the satisfaction!

A few years ago they changed it to put the year's stastics in the Feb WT instead so it might still appear then.
